Short description: Hydrobiology as ecology department dealing with the aquatic environment. Research and describes the properties of aquatic environments and aquatic life, living conditions, the productivity of water. It deals with the quality of water for economic needs, including for fishing. It suggests ways to improve the quality of surface water and protection against pollution.
Full description: Course contents: Water as a chemical - properties, basic methods of research. Hydrobiological research methodology. Testing equipment and its application. Sampling for hydrobiological research. Rivers, lakes, ponds - characteristics. Teams of aquatic organisms. Overview of key representatives of the flora and fauna. Plants and animals adapt to life in water. Aquatic organisms as bioindicators of pollution. Technical Hydrobiology. Fundamentals of aquatic environment.
Bibliography: Oceanological and Hydrobiological Studies, EJPAU, Polish Journal of Environmental Studies, Limnological Review.
Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Understands the substrate and explains the importance of biodiversity and aquatic and water-related. KB_W14, He knows the basic concepts of ecology and water levels of the organization of aquatic ecological systems. Identifies problems and factors affecting the dynamics of change or degradation of aquatic ecosystems (including human pressure). KB_W15, Shows and selects the most suitable test methods hydrobiologic. KB_W17 Skills: Correct observation was conducted in the laboratory and in the field hydrobiologicznym. Interprets and discusses the results and formulate appropriate conclusions, using scientific terminology in the field of biology. Efficiently and safely uses the entrusted equipment. KB_U06, The impact of the environmental factors on organisms, populations and aquatic biota. Explains the interaction between the individual elements of aquatic ecosystems. Identifies threats of the natural aquatic environment. KB_U11, It uses all available sources of information to learn, prepare presentations, business planning research. KB_U17 Social competences: He is aware of the effects of group work, can work and interact in a group, acting in different roles. KB_K02, He plans to research tasks of adapting them to the conditions, their equipment and capabilities. KB_K03, He is aware of the risks to human and animal health arising from the progress of civilization. He sees the need for continuous self-education in this regard, supports the idea and ecological activities. KB_K06
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: Completion of the course: students with a valid credit exercises written exam (10 multiple choice questions, a descriptive) in the examination session.
